GRAVITY BOOTS
‘SNAKES PRETENDING TO BE
SEATBELTS’

Last years Talk Fringe Award
runners up, Gravity Boots, are a local born comedy group presenting original
comedy theatre at it's darkest. Fresh from their Adelaide & Edinburgh
Fringe debuts last year, writers & performers, Michael Cleggett & James
Lloyd-smith have written a brand new hour of surreal storybook sketches and
songs, accompanied by their guitarist, Austin Harrison-Bray. Intelligent
writing with that fearless joy you get from young, avant-garde artists who have
an abundance of talent, and a fabulously odd sense of humour.
“Kooky... Nonsensical...
Funny and entertaining” - Adelaide Advertiser
“Darkly intelligent,
beautifully written, wonderfully performed ***** “
- TalkFringe.com
“A disjointed nonsensical
mish-mash of bizarre costumes, random outbursts... weird characters... I found
myself crying with laughter the whole way through!”
- Adelaide Tweet
“A surreal oddity” - Chortle,
Edinburgh Fringe 2012
Our advice is to come along,
relax your grip on the humdrum of everyday life, and immerse yourself in the
weird and wonderful world of Gravity Boots!

GRAVITY BOOTS AND FRIENDS
Like
many great acts before them, Gravity Boots and Friends met at Uni whilst they
were all supposed to be studying...
With
their course of choice being Creative Arts – Drama, it was no surprise the
comedic creative side came to the fore and thus Gravity Boots was born!
Gravity
Boots consists of Michael Cleggett and James Lloyd-Smith. ‘And friends’ are pianist Nathan
Cox and guitarist Austin Harrison-Bray. Two more friends are Alyssa Mason and Matthew Barker
who act and sing.
Michael
Clegget tells the Gravity Boots story...
“James and I clicked immediately after writing an
off-the-wall radio play about a medieval fair for voice over class. Matt and
Alyssa joined in the madness along the way with Nathan and Austin (my brother-in-law)
supplying the live music.
'Gravity Boots properly
started about a year later when we did a show of sketches and songs, the show
was called 'Turn up the radio papa, the rest don't matter'.
The name Gravity Boots
was originally a phrase James and I used to yell at people or each other, for
reasons unknown to us or others, so it stuck”
Gravity
Boots and Friends is unique – being asked to describe it in one paragraph is
not easy but we’ve given it a go...
Dark,
intelligent, unfettered - Gravity
Boots & Friends is a 6 person (4 players, 2
musicians), Adelaide born, comedy group presenting an hour of storybook
sketches and songs with high quality writing, explosive performances, and that
fearless joy you get from young, avant-garde artists with an
abundance of talent and a brilliant sense of humour.
If
you’re into clever comedy – something new –like nothing you’ve probably seen
